Design Story:

Thoughtful and personal is how you would sum up this project. When this mother came to me she was looking for a special gift for her daughter living in Canada. Due to the pandemic, she hadn't seen her for quite a few years but wanted to let her know she was thinking of her!
She wanted to create something that consisted of three elements: her daughter's NZ roots, her new life in Canada as well as a meaningful family touch. With a vision to encorporate a silver fern, a maple leaf and two beautiful diamonds from her worn out wedding ring, we had the perfect platform to work from.
VISION BOARD
During our first meeting we discussed her vision and how we could potentially intertwine all three elements in to one piece. She had quite a clear vision which made this step simple and exciting.
CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT
Although there were three different elements to the design, developing the concepts came quite naturally as there were only so many ways all three could be pieced together in a classy, modern and meaningful way. These were the initial concepts developed:
Next came concept refinement. The client chose concept 2 as a foundation. With only two diamonds available from her wedding ring, we decided on adding an additional two in order to create a southern cross consternation pattern as seen in the refined, scaled concept below:
PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

Now it was time to breath life into this completely bespoke and special design!
Step One: I hand-cut and shaped each component of the design including the sterling silver fern and the golden maple leaf.
Step Two: The devil is always in the detail so next up came the time spent detailing both components to create a really authentic, custom feel.
Step Three: Time to send it off to the diamond setter before getting the independent valuation completed.
Step Four: Handing over the freshly polished and perfected piece to one very thoughtful and caring mother.
PRODUCT COMPLETION
Time to send it off to the diamond setter before getting the independent valuation completed!
And of course, the best part of all, handing over the freshly polished and perfected piece to one very thoughtful and caring mother.

I am absolutely thrilled with the bespoke piece of jewellery created by Erika.

I had a vague concept of what I wanted, and Erika spent was able to listen, understand, and use her creative talents to turn a naïve idea into a stunning piece of jewellery.

Erika is professional, maintains excellent communication, and is open to modifications during the design process. The piece created for me was beautifully made and of excellent value."
